When I was younger I hated seeing those back to school
commercials on TV. They always started advertising way too early - when I was
still enjoying summer vacation and didn’t want to be reminded that I’d soon be
stuck in a classroom, cramming for exams and dealing with pop quizzes. One of
the best things about starting a new semester was the shopping! I was one of
those girls who had to have the shiny new pencil case and matching binder with
all the accessories and cool gadgets. When I started university, my interest
shifted from colorful pens to trendy makeup and these cute new sets from Quo definitely
makes heading back to class less daunting.
The “My Makeup” Notebook Palettes ($32.00 for the set) combines
uplifting words with simple fall colors. Each beauty book contains 4 eye
shadows and 1 blush that can be used to create both neutral and smoky looks in
a hurry so you won’t be late for class. The set also comes with a pink makeup
bag that is large enough for all your beauty essentials and stationary.
Confident contains neutrals, deep navy and blue, which are quite
stylish for fall. I recommend using a good primer and a few layers to enhance
the pigmentation since the shadows are quite sheer.
The other two palettes are very soft - featuring mild
browns, pink and nude hues with a hint of shimmer. It would have been nice to
see a bit more vibrancy and variation but if you like to keep things simple and
fresh, these colors may suit your style.
The palettes are small enough to slip in your purse,
backpack or pencil case and come with large mirrors for touch-ups on-the-go.
My favorite items from Quo are the makeup brushes because
they are soft, fluffy and get the job done! This chic set comes with 5
beautifully crafted brushes with custom colored handles and a cute cosmetics
bag for $38.00. You get a Powder Brush, Contour Brush, Eye Shadow Brush, Crease Blender and Liner/Brow Brush with sturdy construction and minimal to no shedding.
The Total Beauty Kit ($45.00) is a curated collection of
makeup designed for neutral lovers. It comes with a 4 color eye shadow palette,
cream highlighter, nude lipstick, lip gloss, eyeliner and cream blush.
The shadows and lipstick are a little too light and tame for
my taste but the shimmery highlighter, black liner and moisturizing lip gloss always
comes in handy. The collection does not incorporate the dramatic, richness of
fall foliage (which I love) but the basics may be all you need while readjusting
to the first few months of school.
For younger girls just starting to experiment with makeup,
these sets also make great back-to-school gifts.
Quo is available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart
