Recently many of our favorite makeup brands have created skincare to compliment their cosmetics and support a healthy complexion. Urban Decay
has launched a fabulous new collection to prepare the face for cosmetics and
simplify the removal process.
To achieve the most flawless makeup possible it’s important to
start with a clean, hydrated canvass but large pores can create an uneven finish.
The Pore Refining Peel ($32.00) is laced with a blend of nourishing sugar cane
(a natural form of glycolic acid), Irish moss, lemon balm, jojoba, castor oil,
witch hazel, mistletoe fruit, peppermint, sage and honey. It works like a skin
renewing vacuum - drawing out impurities, dirt and grime as you peel it off. After treatment skin is smooth, clean,
refreshed and ready for makeup. The mask is designed to treat troubled areas
(not the entire face) so only apply it over large pores (usually within the T-zone).
The sticky texture takes a bit of time to spread evenly but make sure to let it
dry completely before removing. For those who are new to this type of
mask, there is no need to be alarmed by the peeling sensation. The formula
dries tight to the skin in order to efficiently lift out debris but it is not
harmful or damaging.
The Hot Springs Hydrating Gel ($34.00) is infused with pure,
mineral rich water sourced from a 1,000 year old spring in Japan. The light,
cooling formula deeply moisturizes, soothes, plumps, softens and balances to eliminate
dry spots that can cause makeup to appear flaky. Many creams create a slick,
slippery base but this non-greasy gel is silky and supple so foundation adheres
well without sliding off and applies evenly. If you still need to use one of
the UD primers you can layer it on top.
Bold lipstick over chapped skin is never cute so slather on
the super-luxe Lip Love Balm ($18.00) to soothe and hydrate. The whipped oil formula is
enriched with coconut and shea butter to alleviate sore, irritate skin and
create a smooth, healthy surface that is kissably supple, replenished and
conditioned. The refreshing mint flavor has a slight cooling effect (without burning or
tingling) and even helps freshen your breath.
The Meltdown Makeup Remover Spray ($32.00) is an ingenious
creation! The powerful yet gentle mist has a lightweight, oil-like texture
(although it is oil-free) and begins working on contact by dissolving makeup (no
rubbing or tugging required). I was a bit skeptical at first but this stuff
really works! It takes everything off including waterproof formulas, lipstick,
heavy foundation and shadow while moisturizing the skin with vitamin E. You may
have to spray and wipe more than once (depending on how much makeup you wear) but
the cleanser is very effective so all your face wash has to do is finish the
job. This product is also
very handy for travel!
Urban Decay has many fabulous long lasting lipsticks and
glittery top coats so to get it all off (stain and all) they created the
Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick ($18.00). Simply glide it across the lips
to break down stubborn pigment and waterproof formulas with a conditioning
blend of vitamin E and ceramide. The moisturizing, silky texture also relieves
dryness so it can be used as a treatment balm to revitalize the skin. I tested
it out on a long lasting, non-transfer matte lip color and the oil removed all
of the pigment in a couple quick swipes. I did feel a slight tingle but it wasn't uncomfortable and the stick is easy to wipe clean.
