With the fabulous array floral patterns and vivid hues
hitting the runway this season Maybelline has veered away from the spectrum of polite pastels
to launch the new Rebel Bloom Spring Collection. These pretty petal hues
incorporate brighter pastels including pinks, red, lilac and coral for a fresh pop of trendy color.
I love to brighten things up when the sun is shining and the
ground has finally thawed so I've tucked away my dark, vampy lipsticks and transitioned to light, luscious colors. These rebellious beauties are
available in 8 feminine shades that are enriched with honey nectar for
hydration, comfort and longevity. I like that the formula does not accentuate dry skin and the infusion of rich ingredients like castor oil, sesame seed oil and shea butter keep lips relatively moist and supple.
The lipsticks have the same sweet, iconic scent familiar
to the ColorSensational Collections and the pigmentation ranges from vibrant full coverage to a soft wash of color with a hint of satiny shine. A few shades are on the sheer side but the bright hues pack a bold punch of playful color and the texture is creamy and moisturizing for comfort and easy application. The formula glides on buttery smooth and on average I get up to 3-4 hours of wear before needing to reapply.
The line is predominately comprised of light hues as many of the
lipsticks are pastels but it would have been nice to see a bit more variety and
color differentiation. The pinks are pretty but they apply very similar and the
vibrant options remind me of shades from previous collections. Lilac Flush (not featured in this review) is the color that brings something unique to the table, the light lavender-pink is quite whimsical and beautifully mellow.
I don’t want to bash the neutrals but it isn't always necessary for new collections to toss in another nude and Barley Bloomed is quite basic. Most of the pastels however are not as shy and boast fully bloomed petal power to totally abolish dull lips.

My top picks are the shades that standout the most- Rose
Rush and Coral Burst but many of the lipsticks are buildable so you can increase
or subdue the intensity of the pigments. There is a shade suitable
for every complexion however it may take some swatching to find your favorite bloom.
Overall the formula of these lipsticks is great and
you can definitely find something in the collection to help get you in the spring spirit. Rebel Bloom is available at drug stores and the
lipsticks retail for $9.99 CAD each.
