Miraj Hammam Spa Review: Shangri-La Hotel Toronto

As I stepped into the posh Shangri-La Hotel Toronto the bustling city noise faded away and I was instantly transported to a chic retreat of glistening marble floors and warm, cozy fireplaces. Melodious tunes from the band filled the foyer and the soft clinking of champagne glasses drifted through the air as I made my way to the spa.

The Shangri-La is one of the hottest places to stay while exploring the city and their renowned Miraj Hammam Spa is the perfect haven for indulging in some of the most luxurious treatments expertly designed to pamper the mind and body.

I previously had the pleasure of attending a Toronto Film Festival party at the hotel and the balance of trendy decor, glam event space and relaxation makes for a truly remarkable experience.

Event Space

On the fifth floor the elevator doors opened to the comforting sound of trickling water and a charming Zen lobby complete with a beautiful pedestal fountain. The staff were very warm and welcoming and as they led me to the change room to prepare for my treatment I caught a glimpse of the elegant lounge with an amazing view of the city!

Spa Reception

The five star reception included 2 fluffy robes, sandals, a locker and access to a variety of high quality skincare by Caudalie Paris including just about every beauty essential a woman needs! I was invited to try the Hammam and Gommage treatment which entails a full body steam and exfoliation reminiscent of authentic Middle Eastern traditions.

In the sauna room I changed into a pretty silk sarong and sipped some cool water as I stepped into the high intensity steam chamber with a refreshing blast of eucalyptus. Since my session was private I had the luxury of blissful silence and as the steam detoxified my body, opened my pores and moisturized my hair and skin I lay back and completely gave in to relaxation. The warmth and rich humidity eased and soothed the tension in my body, alleviated knots, loosened my muscles, decongested my sinuses and lulled me into a state of tranquility and peace.

I was then taken to a low intensity steam chamber where I laid on exotic Jerusalem gold marble as a masseuse gently covered me in fragrant eucalyptus infused Moroccan oils. Using a loofah she exfoliated my entire body which helps remove dead cells, stimulate circulation and nourish the skin. The process felt calming, de-stressing, invigorating, and simply amazing! I was able to unwind and completely give in to being pampered and renewed.

After the treatment my skin was smooth, supple, soft and hydrated which is exactly what I needed after the harsh, drying winter! I was glowing and radiant from head to toe and I felt at ease and rejuvenated. The final step was rest time in the private relaxation room decorated like an exotic Moroccan oasis with plush lounge areas, an abundance of colorful pillows, blankets and magazines should you feel the need for a little light reading. The gorgeous nook I was comfortably nestled into reminded me of a Sultan’s palace and I was served delicious chi mint tea, tantalizing sweets, water and fresh fruit.

Relaxation Room

I had a lovely evening at the Shangri-La, the experience and service was exceptional and if you are looking for a wonderful hideaway to melt your stress away and calm your mind, body and spirit the Miraj Hammam Spa is the place to be.

Since the spa also books groups it is the perfect treat for Mother's Day, a girl’s weekend, or a romantic couple’s getaway. The Hammam and Gommage treatment I had was 30 minutes long for $135.00. More information can be found on the website by clicking- HERE
