Avon True Color Lip Glow and NEW Glimmerkiss Liquid Lipstick

I usually wear full-coverage matte lipstick but during the summer I can’t be bothered. When I’m on my way to dinner on a humid day, I know my lipstick will be completely gone as soon as I take my first bite.

In this heat wave, gloss is much easier to deal with and precise application is not necessary. Avon’s True Color Lip Glow ($13 ea) is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The creamy, supple formula is hydrating, comfortable, long-lasting and paraben-free. They smell delicious and the sheer finish provides the perfect amount of juicy pigment to make my lips look full and plush.

The color is slightly buildable – you can apply a few layers for a noticeable shiny tint and there is so much to choose from – pink, red, nude, wine, coral, plum and more. A few shades contain shimmer for a radiant glow.

When your lipstick dries out and begins to fade, use the gloss to revive the color and soften parched skin with no stickiness. They contain a nourishing blend of chia seed and rose hip oil so you can use them as a substitute for lip balm.

For a night on the town, Avon has created Glimmerkiss Liquid Lipstick ($14 ea) in 4 bold hues. The rich gel-cream formula has a metallic matte glitter finish that stands out from across the room!

I think these are gorgeous (especially the fuchsia pink and ruby red) but they aren’t the kind of lipstick you eat or drink in (unless you sip carefully through a straw). Once applied they last for hours (maybe the entire night), but look don’t touch! If they start to transfer the glitter will be everywhere and it is difficult to remove the particles and reapply without a makeup wipe. I will probably reserve these for special non-foodie events.

Avon Crave Lip Gloss Review

Remember when going to the store to buy new lipstick or cute gloss was a big deal? As a kid I used to save up my allowance and blow it all on delicious smelling balms and shiny color that made my lips look reflective and pretty. Nowadays it’s all about high-end brands, expensive trends and contouring the heck out of your cheekbones so they match the sharpness of your perfectly arched brows.

Thankfully Avon is kicking it old-school and simplifying beauty by reminding us that makeup can be fun and affordable. They’ve recently launched a new collection of Craze Lip Gloss featuring 12 deliciously scented shades including: Chocolate Brownie, Strawberry, Cherry, Honey Tea, French Toast, Birthday Cake and Sangria.

The playful packaging takes me back to high school, when shiny lips were all the rage and everyone had a squeeze tube in their bag. The sheer juicy color provides layers of glistening moisture infused with a nourishing burst Vitamin E.

You can also apply the gloss over lip stains and matte formulas to keep skin supple and smooth with a hint of shimmery sheen.

There is nothing complicated about these. Just choose your favorite shade (there isn’t much color payoff), gloss up and go! The sheer tint is a bit more exciting than plain old balm and the frosty finishes make lips appear healthy, plump and radiant with no stickiness.

Everyone can use more hydration in their life (especially during winter) and Crave Gloss is great for girls and women of all ages!

Get them for $8.00 each or three for $12.99 at avon.ca

Avon True Color Glossy Tube Lip Gloss Review

Now that spring is finally in full-swing and summer is just around the corner you may want to take a break from heavy lipstick and lighten things up with sheer, juicy gloss. When I prefer something simple I toss a couple Glossy Tubes in my tote for supple, radiant lips.

Although the colors appear vivid the tint is very subtle with a high-shine translucent finish. The reflective effect makes lips appear plump and healthy plus the formula clings to skin for long lasting hydration. As the gloss gradually wears away, lips continue to feel soft, smooth and nourished.

The fun squeeze tubes remind me of products I used as a teen and the sweet candy sent is nice. Since the gloss is allergy tested it should be safe for sensitive skin and the oil-free formula is also enriched with vitamins to alleviate and replenish.

I like to use these during long flights or harsh weather because the creamy consistency holds up well in dry environments and creates a moist, soothing layer that I don’t have to touch-up or reapply very often. The only time I do notice a bit of stickiness is when my lips come in contact with something but the gloss feels comfortable and stays put.

The Glossy Tubes retail for $6.00 each and Avon is available through independent consultants and at avon.ca.
