MAC Red Satin Lipstick

I have a fair amount of red lipsticks and although there are some I really like I had yet to find one that I fell in love with... until now! I love this MAC red Satin finish lipstick so much that I thought I would feature it in a short post.

This lipstick is very creamy and velvety smooth, and unlike Ruby Woo it is not completely matte, it gives you a touch of shine and lots of beautiful color! This shade is perfect for every season.

The formula in the lipstick is non drying, and contains ingredients like: castor seed oil, sesame oil and jojoba oil among the first ingredients listed.

This red is blue based and unlike some other red lipsticks it does not oxidize and turn orange in appearance.  The shade is richly pigmented and I think it would flatter many skin types from light to dark.

If you are looking for a nice deep red lipstick I would definitely recommend MAC's Red.

Makeup Storage Ideas and Containers

The area where I store my makeup seems to be shrinking..Okay maybe it has something to do with the tiny obsession I have, but until I get a larger vanity area I needed some more storage containers to help me keep organized.

I went to Walmart and found this acrylic vanity top makeup holder by Caboodle for $10.
Right now this container is storing makeup I haven't opened yet and things I don't use everyday. There is also a space  you can use for cotton pads and Q-tips. I also use it as a place to shove extra things, such as items I have ordered 2 of.

I tend to go back and forth between my house and my mom's house because I spend a lot of time with my sister. My hubby and I sometimes take weekend trips so I usually use my makeup train case. While I am not travelling this is an excellent place to store makeup I don't have any other place for.

I also use plastic storage containers with drawers. This container is very deep and can hold a lot. I actually have another storage container like this with 6 drawers. If you get a few of these they really help keep everything organized.

For lipsticks I use these lipstick holders I found at Winners. They are $12 each and keep your lipsticks nice and neat. They come in different shapes and designs. You may be able to find them at other retailers and they do sell them on Ebay and Amazon.

I also have a square one

And then of course there are the 10 or so lipsticks always strewn about at the bottom of my purse, but we won't talk about that....

I am also  getting one of these when I decide how I am going to re-arrange everything in my room. I want to do a bit of re-decorating. This is from Ikea and the color matches with my other furniture. It is also thin enough to tuck away, and it would be prefect for makeup.
I store my eye shadow palettes and nail polish somewhere else but that will be in another post.

How do you store your makeup? leave a comment below and let me know.

Easy way to create your own button for your blog

I have seen many cute blog buttons and I finally decided to make my own (which is located on my sidebar).

Before creating my button I tried many websites and codes that were confusing and didn't work at all! But I found a website that allows you to create your own button very simply so I thought I would share the info with my fellow bloggers.

You may have to re-size and readjust your image first and then obtain a URL for your image. I use tinypic.com and photobucket to re-size and obtain a URL. This site quickly generates the code for you and it's free!

My favorite summer sunglasses

I love wearing sunglasses in the summer and throughout the year on sunny days. They not only provide much needed protection for your eyes but they can also put the final touch on a cute outfit.

The importance of protecting your eyes
Like wearing sunscreen to protect your skin, protecting your eyes is equally important. The cumulative exposure to UV radiation from the sun can increase your risk of developing cataracts later in life as well as sunburn on the surface of the eyes and macular degeneration. The skin around your eyes such as your eyelids are highly prone to skin cancer.

Always make sure that the sunglasses you buy have UV protection. Usually you can find this information on the sticker placed on the lens or on the packaging. If not ask a sales clerk and don't bother buying it if they don't offer any protection. I have purchased sunglasses from clothing stores at the mall for as little as $12 that still had 100% UV protection.

Here are some of my favorites sunglasses this summer from more affordable brands to designer.

This first pair is light pink with gold detailing on the side. I like the round/oval shape and the color of the lens. I bought these at the clothing store Dynamite which usually has very cute sunglasses at affordable prices.

These Ralph Lauren sunglasses are a very flattering square shape, trendy and quite large without engulfing your face.

My next favorite pair are these Prada aviator style sunglasses, the shape is slightly less defined than traditional aviators but I like the color and the sleek design.

These cute Versace sunglasses are large & round in shape. Perfect when paired with a cute summer up-do.

These Guess sunglasses are the ones I wear most often. They are not very big yet not too small, they fit my face perfectly and the shape is also very flattering.

I am still on the hunt for a pair of white framed sunglasses and also some brown framed glasses.

Protecting your Sunglasses
One thing I think is important for women who own sunglasses is proper purse storage. Under all the other things women carry in their purse it can be quite easy for a pair of sunglasses to get broken, sometimes beyond repair.
I would recommend getting a hard cover case, one that is durable and will protect your sunglasses from getting buried and broken in your bag.

I use this one that I got with my Ralph Lauren sunglasses. It is a bit bulky but gets the job done.

You should also be careful of what you use to wipe and clean your glasses, not all material is safe and can scratch the lens.

Happy Canada Day!!!

Happy Canada Day everyone! Canada is 146 years old and today we will celebrate the birth of this beautiful and strong nation. I love being  a born and raised Canadian and here in Toronto there will be many celebrations going on around town including a lot of fireworks.

In Canada we are known for many things like: the fact that we say "eh" a lot, which is sometimes true as I have to admit that when I travel abroad I catch myself saying it. We are also known for our vast and beautiful countryside, cities and landscape, the birth of hockey and delicious maple syrup. We are a bilingual country of French and English, and although I am not fluent in French I did study French in school and can get by fairly well; but there is so much more to us than that. Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world and a great place to  live. The abundance of diverse and rich culture is truly beautiful.

What better way to start off the morning than with some fluffy fruit pancakes topped with Canadian maple syrup!!

I will leave you with a few photos of my home, enjoy!!!
