Urban Decay Backtalk Palette – Review & Swatches

Summer is the time to let go of inhibitions, check a few goals off your bucket list and slip into that sexy sun dress you’ve been dying to wear. If you’re looking for a multipurpose palette that can go from formal to fun you should definitely get your hands on Urban Decay’s latest creation.

Backtalk is the kind of palette you will want to take on vacation to create effortless looks and slip in your tote for romantic weekend getaways. It is perfect for daily wear and stunning on all skin tones.

This portable palette has a unique structural design that forms a mini vanity! Pop it open to reveal a row of gorgeous eye shadows alongside 2 must-have blushes and 2 radiant highlighters. Each side is divided by a double-sided removable mirror and when you’re done creating your masterpiece, the whole thing folds-up (pretty neat).

The shadows are luxuriously silky, highly pigmented, buildable, non-creasing and long-lasting. When applied over UD’s Primer Potion, the colors stand-out vividly and blend easily with bold saturation. My favourite shade is Attitude - a dusty rose with a pop of metallic brilliance but there is enough variety to create both neutral effects and dramatic intensity. The only thing I would add is another matte crease shade in deep burgundy or dark brown but I can always turn to my Naked Heat Palette for backup. You also get a nice brow highlight and a couple pretty transition shades to help pull your entire look together.

The Blushes instantly revive dull skin and the rich, velvety texture blends seamlessly! Cheap Shot is a gorgeous pink-mauve that provides a natural flush and Double Take is a soft coral that looks amazing on sunkissed skin. The two highlighters pair well with the blush and the smooth, lightweight shimmer instantly brightens the face for a lustrous bombshell glow.

The Palette retails for $59.00. Urban Decay is available at freestanding stores, Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart, and online at urbandecay.ca. Don`t forget to sign up for the Beauty Junkies Rewards Program to earn and redeem points.

Dior Hydra Life Skincare – New Products

During my recent vacation I was dealing with a bad case of heat rash and as mentioned in my previous article – the pollution, jet lag and long drying flights didn't help. To recuperate and reinvigorate the complexion after sun exposure, pollution, fatigue and daily stress, The Dior Hydra Life Collection works wonders! The products are 83% natural with no parabens, or silicone and the formula contains a prebiotic to balance, purify and rejuvenate.

No matter how tired you are after a long day, don’t forget to remove your makeup. Clogged pores, bacteria and greasy skin can cause nasty breakouts and irritation. Thankfully Dior has created a Triple Impact Makeup Remover ($42.00) that cleanses, moisturizes and refreshes. I love that you can use the concentrate on sensitive areas of the face with minimal lash loss and no stinging or burning. Use it to loosen long-wear lipstick, pulverize messy glitter and soften crunchy mascara while eliminating dirt, sebum and impurities. The texture is silky and light so it glides across the skin and feels great.

After makeup removal I usually wash my face with a cleanser using my Clarisonic or Foreo before applying the Balancing 2-in-1 Sorbet Water ($52.00). Developed in collaboration with the Dior Asian Innovation Center in Japan, this crystalline lotion moisturizes, strengthens and diminishes minor imperfections including dilated pores, shine, redness and spots. It also helps prep your skin for makeup or night care by replenishing and fortifying. The revitalizing liquid leaves my face soft, clean and smooth with no stickiness.

The Hydration rescue Intense Sorbet Cream ($82.00) is my favorite new product in the collection. The luxurious whipped texture melts in like butter and transforms into a fluid serum that drenches parched skin in layers of moisture with no residue. The formula helps calm irritation, protect from pollutants and keeps water in cells to prevent dryness and damage. My skin feels incredibly plump, supple, dewy and velvety plus the scent is wonderful! After exposure to extreme environmental conditions like heat and smog, this cream feels cool and refreshing on stressed skin.

I always end my night routine with a good eye cream and recently I’ve had trouble readjusting to the time zone and getting enough rest. The Cooling Hydration Sorbet Eye Gel ($70.00) delivers “ice cube freshness” for a quick anti-fatigue touch-up. The formula contains anti-inflammatory water to decongest the lids and reduce puffiness while mineral powders correct dark circles and Abyssinica Oil nourishes and protects lashes and brows. The ceramic applicator has the effect of an ice cube to promote microcirculation, boost radiance and awaken the eye contour so you look well rested. You can also pop it in the fridge to enhance the invigorating sensation.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Paint-On Liquid Lip Color - Review & Swatches

A few months ago I attended Estee Lauder’s press event to learn about their revolutionary anti-aging skincare and test some pretty lipstick. I also had my lip print read by a fortune teller and spritzed on some intoxicating new fragrances.

The Color Envy Collection is a cult favorite featuring a variety of versatile finishes including metallic, matte vinyl and a few limited edition shades. The smooth, velvety formula drenches your pout in dramatic, multidimensional color with scintillating shine.

The metallic effect is to die for! It glides on bold and seductive for full-coverage intensity and plumping luminosity. My lips feel cushioned, hydrated and comfortable and as long as you aren’t eating or drinking, the pigment stays put relatively well. The lipstick isn’t transfer proof (very few lip products are) but a few touch-up throughout the day is a small price to pay for amazing color and smooth application.

What I like most about this collection (aside from the vibrancy) is the incredible color spectrum. There is something for every skin tone, occasion and style preference. I was drawn to the alluring wine, red and rose gold tones for evening wear but there are also neutrals, brights and classic hues.

The metallics are creamy and rich while the matte finish is light, fluid and long-wear with a bit of staining and less moisture. You can’t go wrong no matter which shade you choose and the nourishing blend of avocado, jojoba, sunflower and castor oil keeps your skin healthy and soft.

Swatches bottom to top: 303 Controversial, 410 Wine Shot, 109 Lacquer Lover, Scream Sexy and 103 Smash Up

The Color Envy Liquid Lipsticks retail for $38.00 each at Estee Lauder Counters nationwide and online at esteelauder.ca.

Biotherm Skin Oxygen Collection Review – Let Your Skin Breathe

If you’ve been following my Instagram page (@DiaryofaTrendaholic) then you’ve probably seen many travel photos from my trip to Asia. I went to Shanghai with a brief stop in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) before heading to Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok and Hong Kong. It was an amazing experience but the long flights, jet lag and infamous pollution in China wasn’t great for my skin. To strengthen, shield and replenish my complexion I’ve been using Biotherm’s new Oxygen Collection – a range of products designed to protect the skin from toxins and environmental assaults.

What I love about Biotherm is that they seem to find the most amazing ingredients from remote natural resources and this time they’ve discovered the power of Chlorella Extract. This potent green algae is called “the breathing algae” because it is capable of purifying the environment with extreme efficacy. It also increases cellular defence by 142%, boosts cell respiration and filters impurities to minimize pores and imperfections.

The products are up to 99% natural and formulated for water lovers. They are also simple to use because there is a comprehensive 4 step system to help you cleanse, perfect, repair and hydrate for optimal results.

The Skin Oxygen Depolluting Cleanser ($26.00) starts as a rich gel that melts into the skin and transforms into a bubbly lather. The mild botanical scent reminds me of a spa and the lush formula effectively removes dirt, oil, makeup and sweat to clear pores, detoxify and counteract dullness.

Step 2 is the Oxygenating Lotion ($26.00) which works like a toner without stickiness, dryness or heavy astringents. It minimizes the appearance of large pores, absorbs grease and corrects imperfections caused by pollutants so skin looks smooth, healthy and radiant. It also helps prep my face for moisturizer and makeup by refreshing and purifying. When used daily, the solution seems to reduce the occurrence of breakouts and diminish the appearance of blemishes without any stinging.

Enriched with regenerating antioxidants, the Skin Oxygen Strengthening Concentrate ($61.00) repairs environmental damage, replenishes and deeply moisturizes with no residue. The refreshing gel instantly cools and quenches parched skin with a smooth, supple finish. I usually apply it before moisturizer and at night after cleansing as a protective layer. It helps keep my skin clear, even and resilient.

It was incredibly hot, sticky and humid in Singapore with lots of sunshine and absolutely no breeze. The Skin Oxygen Cooling Gel ($60.00) felt like a breath of fresh air on my stressed skin and I love the lightweight, fast absorbing formula. The gel helps reinforce your natural moisture barrier to keep skin soft and hydrated while reducing sebum and deflecting the adherence of pollution particles. Like all of the other products, it smells fantastic and helps alleviate irritation.

In city smog and summer humidity, this collection is a great defense system to keep your skin clear, bright and healthy! Biotherm is available at Shoppers Drug Mart, The Bay, Rexall, Sephora and online at biotherm.ca

Too Faced Glitter Pop! Peel-Off Eyeliner Review

Spring showers have brought warmer temperatures and the onset of summer! Here in Toronto we only have a few short months to enjoy the season and I plan on taking full advantage. An easy way to glam-up your makeup for an evening out is by adding a touch of brilliant sparkle and the Too Faced Glitter Pop Liners are easy to use, multidimensional and dazzling!

The liners are available in a variety of fun shades with multi-color shimmer that makes your eyes stand out. To apply the glitter, thoroughly coat the brush and apply 3-4 layers in short feathery strokes to create a solid line.

An easier method is to start with pencil or liquid liner and go over the line with glitter until you've intensified the color.

You can also layer the glitter over eye shadow for a dramatic finish. Once dry, the liner stays put all day until you are ready to peel it off and it removes easily with no scatter or fallout.

My favorite shades are Kitty Glitter (pink with blue and silver) and Lucky Bitch (radiant gold) but you can always mix and match to create your own cool effects.

The Liners retail for $20.00 each and Too Faced is available at Sephora and online at toofaced.com.

DermaWand Review – Professional Anti-Aging Skincare Treatment

With Mother’s Day coming up next week and summer just around the corner, many of us want to look good, feel great and put our best face forward. Instead of sending mom to the spa for one costly session or continually spending money on expensive anti-aging treatments, DermaWand offers a convenient solution.

There is an increasing trend among women to look for solutions that provide clinical results at home and DermaWand ($119.00) is a great alternative to medical procedures. This lightweight, handheld device is easy to use and provides an effective DIY face and eye lift that yields visible results. When creams and serums aren’t enough and surgery isn’t an option, this powerful wand helps improve your appearance by recharging the skin’s youthful vitality.

DermaWand uses the same Radio Frequency Technology that doctors and skincare specialists use in clinics to manage premature aging but at a level that is safe for in-home use. It also emits thermal energy enriched with oxygen and massage to deliver quick, effective results.

You can use the DermaWand to diminish the look of fine lines and deep wrinkles but since I don’t have any, I use it to reduce pore size, smooth uneven texture and keep my skin and profile smooth, tight and resilient. It also helps lift the eyebrow area and any sagging/drooping skin that needs toning. Use it to tighten loose folds on the neck, fade laugh lines and crows feet, plump the lips and reduce puffy under eye bags for total facial rejuvenation.

When starting any treatment it is important to read the instruction manual carefully and perform a spot test on your arm or hand to determine how your skin will react. It takes time to get used to the sensation so start at level 1 and work your way up (the highest setting is 9). To me the treatment feels like being zapped with a soft charge of static electricity. I didn’t experience any pain or adverse effects but I’m not sure I will be able to use the highest level. Many people see results after the first treatment and you can definitely feel the waves penetrating deep into the tissue to stimulate collagen, improve circulation and revitalize your muscles.

You only need to use the DermaWand for 3 minutes a day after cleansing and applying moisturizer plus you can also treat your arms, legs, stomach and other areas of the body that need a little lift just in time for summer. Immediate results after the first few sessions may be temporary so you should keep using the device to achieve long-term goals. If your skin needs to be refreshed and energized before a big event, this tool provides the boost of confidence you need before the big day and it is very easy to incorporate into your daily routine. I am definitely going to continue my treatments to see how long it takes for drastic improvements.

The unit has a standard wall plug and comes with a handy carrying pouch for travel, a Pre-Face Treatment Spray and the Derma Vital Skin Quench Moisturizer. For more information or to place an order, visit dermawand.com.

Dior Cool Wave Summer 2018 Makeup Collection - Review & Swatches

Last week while I was lounging by the pool in Thailand and touring the magnificent gardens in Singapore, my makeup looked fabulous! Dior’s Cool Wave Collection is what summer dreams are made of - featuring bright aquatic blues, fiery sunset coral, warm bronze and golden hues that transition from neutral to sultry.

These brilliant pigments are perfect for tropical beach destinations, summer soirees and drinks with the girls. The vibrant, creamy shadows apply effortlessly with splashes of energetic color that melts into sunkissed skin.

The Cool Down Shadow Palette ($73.00) reminds me of the blue lagoons in Phuket and snorkeling in the cool ocean waves. The scintillating blues range from bright and sparkling, refreshing silver and dramatic navy for beautiful contrast, definition and smokiness. The velvety texture is smooth, buildable and non-creasing for excellent coverage and versatility.

Heat Up ($73.00) contains a smoldering selection of deep bronze and radiant gold that effortlessly enhance your summer glow. I also use the shimmery finish to luminize my cheekbones and boost my complexion. The blazing coral adds a distinct pop of color to the lids, crease or lower lash line and makes a fabulous summer blush. These silky shadows layer well for optimal intensity that lasts all day but the lightest shade in both palettes are sheer glittery overlays.

When the weather is warm and humid, treat your lips to cool, hydrating color with the new Dior Addict Lip Tattoos ($37.00). These pigments are like a drink of water for parched skin and the liquid-y finish enhances the natural color of your lips to create a lightweight, natural flush. The tints are soft, sheer and simple but they make my pout look plump and juicy – like I just ate a delicious Popsicle that stained my lips a wonderful color. The supple finish fuses with the skin for up to 10 hours of smudge-proof wear.

(Watermelon & Cranberry)

On long summer nights the Dior Cooling Sticks ($41.00) are a true ally for tired eyes, instantly toning the eyelids so you look more awake. The creamy formula is loaded with moisturizing water and solid color for a bright, luminous finish that makes your eyes appear big, bright and beautiful. Use them to highlight the brow bone, lash line, inner corner of the eye and even the Cupid's bow to take your look to the next level.

(Gold Splash & Fresh Pink)

When it comes to summer manis and pedis I usually wear the brightest shades I can find. The Rouge Dior Vernis ($34.00) in the color Pow is a bold creamsicle orange with pearly shimmer that catches the light. The formula has a fluid texture that is easy to work with for opaque coverage in 2 coats.

This collection is available at Dior Counters nationwide including The Bay, Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart and Holt Renfrew.

Mother’s Day Jewellery Gift Guide

Although I am jet lagged from my trip around Asia, I made it back in time for Mother’s Day! My sister and I have an exciting evening planned for our mom including a scrumptious dinner followed by a Parisian themed paint night and lots of fruity cocktails.

If you’re having trouble deciding what to get the special ladies in your life, jewellery is always beautiful, tasteful and classic. Today I’m sharing a few fabulous finds that are colorful, trendy and affordable.

Stackable rings and bracelets are eye-catching and multidimensional like this colorful 3 piece Pop of Red Ring Set from Avon for just $11.99. The rings are different sizes and shapes but they fit together a variety of ways. They also look great when worn individually and the blue tones are perfect for summer.

Speaking of warm weather, why not give mom some bright spring jewellery that she can wear to brunch with the girls. This cute Flower Market Necklace and Earring Set ($11.99 at avon.ca) features pretty multicolored petals that sparkle in the sun. The matching conjoined flower ring ($9.99) completes the look and makes a stylish statement piece on its own.

Pandora has released a gorgeous Mother’s Day Collection that is simple, unique and elegant. The Brilliant Bow design includes a feminine sterling silver bracelet ($70.00) with a half bangle - half chain band offset by a dainty bow and shimmering stones. I recommend pairing it with the adorable bow ring ($70.00) which also has a ribbon of clear stones. The matching earrings are available for $70.00 to complete the set. Don't forget to check out Pandora's new gold plated Shine Collection - you can find more info HERE.

I love the contrast of purple tones in Avon’s Flower Market Bracelet ($14.99) and the setting reminds me of regal peacock feathers. This open bangle is sure to style-up your summer wardrobe and it works for both casual events and formal occasions.

Another purple beauty you might want to get your hands on is Avon’ Purple Peace Genuine Amethyst Necklace ($15.00). 10% of the sales price is donated to domestic violence fundraising and the delicate silver extender chain looks stunning against the skin.

If you'd like to contribute to another great cause, the ladies in your family will love the Pink Hope Rose Quartz Beaded Bracelet ($14.00). Avon donates 10% of the proceeds to breast cancer fundraising and the soft pink beads look ravishing on women of all ages.

While browsing avon.ca I also found this amazing Bejewelled Mirror Compact ($10.99) which comes with a bag to protect the stones. Since every woman needs a mirror for touch-ups, it may as well be glamorous!

This cute little fox ring was a gift to myself. I found it while browsing the market in Shanghai’s old town and couldn’t resist the way it wrapped around my finger. You might not be able to find this particular piece (unless you’re in China) but I just had to share!

A few other pieces I found in Asia include these ravishing coral earrings that just happen to match my stackable Avon ring (I love when things work out).

I also picked up these large blue-green earrings that remind me of whimsical dream catchers.

Happy Mother’s Day!
