Borage Oil Does Wonders for my Skin!

For  those of you who have read my post about the Dr. Oz show and the secrets the beauty industry does not want you to know, you have seem me mention borage seed oil before. If you haven’t seen that post you can find it by clicking- HERE

Since that program about beauty secrets I have done some research and I went out and bought some borage oil. Dr. Oz mentioned that borage oil was a great natural anti-aging oil that moisturizes, repairs and hydrates the skin. Also mentioned on the show was that you can use this oil on your eyebrows, lashes, lips and skin.

First some basic info about borage oil:
*Borage oil is derived from a wildflower called a starflower
*Contains omega 6
*Reduces skin aging and roughness
*Suppresses chronic inflammation
*Can clear up various skin disorders such as (eczema, acne, rosacea, psoriasis)
*Restores the moisture and smoothness of the skin
*Helps restore damaged skin
*Aids with hair maintenance and hair loss

My results:
Since buying the borage oil I have seen immediate results in the appearance of my skin.

Occasionally I will get a few annoying hormonal pimples that I can’t seem to do anything about during a certain time of the month. Sometimes those annoying flat little red dots take forever to go away. Thankfully I don’t get them often and my skin is not acne prone but this oil was the ONLY thing that I have tried that actually got rid of those pesky little pimples. The borage oil got rid of them in 2 days!

The first night I applied the oil to my face before bed I woke up and noticed a dramatic improvement in the texture and overall appearance of my skin. The pimples had almost vanished and the redness was gone. By the second day they were completely gone and my skin was clear again! I was in total shock and I thought maybe it was just a fluke so I got my husband to try it out. By the first morning he was raving about the borage oil and ready to go out and buy another bottle. He said he saw an immediate difference in the appearance of his skin.

I also noticed:
*Smoother skin
*More radiant skin
*A clear complexion
The oil comes in capsule form, you can take them orally or use them topically. I poke a small hole in the capsule and apply the oil directly to my skin. It doesn't have the most pleasant scent so I would recommend applying it before bed. One capsule lasts me 4-5 nights and the bottle we bought contains 120 pills!

I would suggest giving it a try if you can safely do so. You can test a small area of skin first to make sure you don’t have any reactions to it. This oil may not work for everyone and you may not have the same results I had but I am glad I found it.

You can purchase borage oil at health food stores, just make sure it is pure and contains no additives.

Borage oil will now be a staple part of my beauty regime.

If you have tried this oil or know about it leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

  1. Interesting. I've heard a lot about oils. This is something I think I want to try. I have issues with my skin and nothing I do seems to help!

  2. It is definitely worth a try. Sometimes these natural remedies work a lot better than the store bought creams because they contain more of the active ingredient. It is like shea butter, so many creams and hair products have it in the label and market it based on that but what about just using shea butter itself. Sometimes I like to go right to the source.

  3. I didn't think there was anything that could help with hormonal pimples. I've GOT to try this.

    1. Well I only use the oil at night so the smell is just something I have to cope with before bed. If you do not like the smell (which I understand) just rinse or wash your face off in the morning with a gentle cleanser to get rid of the oil and use your moisturizer during the day. You can apply the oil before you go to bed, that way you won't notice the smell while you sleep and in the morning you can wash it off.

    2. You can pour the borage oil into a small bottle and add just a few drops of a nice aromatic essential oil such as lavender or clary sage. There are other essential oils that have pleasant perfumes, and are also good for the skin.

  6. I also saw the Dr Oz show and decided to try the barage oil. I have been using it for 3 months unbeknownst to my esthetitian. I just had my 2nd facial since using the oil and my esthetitian said my skin looks the best it has ever looked. The smell is worth the great results...

  7. I love Borage Oil for the skin. I am a licensed Clinical Aesthetician and have been a fan of this oil for years. In regard to the smell; empty several gel caps into an air tight glass jar, then add a small amount of lavender oil to the borage oil. Lavender is good for all skin conditions and has an anti-inflammatory, soothing result for the skin. You may want to add this mixture to a fragrance free body cream and use on the body as well.

  8. I just started using borage oil capsules as well, and love them. It took me a while to find a store that sells it locally, and I found it in both the form of capsules as well as just plain oil. I just wanted to offer that the ones I purchased have no smell whatsoever, so I'm guessing it depends on who makes them. Mine are made by the same company that owns the natural health and beauty store and unfortunately they aren't available online, but I thought you might want to know that smell-less ones exist!

  11. Do you also use a night cream or any serums. If so in what order do you apply them?

    1. Hi, I do use a serum and a night cream but I do not use them at the same time I use the borage oil. The DIY face serum and enhanced face cream I make is so great! You can find that post here
      http://diaryofatrendaholic.blogspot.ca/2013/10/amazing-diy-face-serum-and-face-cream.html

At night I apply the face serum first with the tips of my fingers and I press it into my skin instead of rubbing. Pressing product into your skin is suppose to be better for absorption. Next I apply my face cream in the same way, pressing it in instead of rubbing it. I also use an eye cream, an organic lip balm and I apply some Vaseline to my lashes to help them grow and stay nourished while I sleep.

  12. Thank you. So when do you use the borage oil, alternate nights? I've been using the borage oil at night & think its too greasy to use in the morning. I use Argan oil in the morning. I also just bought Josie Moran cleansing oil and am interested in the oil cleansing method but I use a cleansing brush, clarisonic, and love it but I'm not sure if I should use it with the cleansing oil. Any thoughts?

  13. Right now I use the serum and night cream most nights but I do use the borage oil once in a while. I personally would not wear oil during the day time, it would be too greasy for me and I wear makeup so that would not work too well. I only use oils at night if I choose to use them, in the day I wear the Aveeno daily moisturizer with SPF. Right now the serum is working like a charm! If you would like to see a recent photo you can go to this post - http://diaryofatrendaholic.blogspot.ca/2013/10/sigma-kabuki-brush-set.html

I have the Clarisonic as well. I use it 1-2 times per week because that is all the exfoliation my skin can handle. I only cleanse my face with a cleanser at night. I use the Aveeno foaming cleanser or the Clean and Clear cleanser at night and then follow it up with my serum and night cream. I don't see the need to cleanse both morning and night so I just wash my face with water in the mornings.

I have never used a cleansing oil before. Does it really cleanse your skin? As long as the oil is not too heavy for the bristles of the Clarisonic brush or effecting how it works then it should be fine. Doesn't the oil make it harder to clean the brush? You would have to use some type of soap to remove the oil since water and oil don't mix.

    1. I just noticed how old this post is and you probably already got an answer about the clarisonic but I do use it with oils to cleanse my skin. It works awesome but because I don't bother with eye makeup remover, I still have faint mascara residue over my face. I use a toner to get that off. I think though, that if I washed my eye make up off, I wouldn't have to use the toner though.

Also, yeah, the oils are a little heavy on the brush in that, there is usually a slight residue. I wash my brush every 2-3 days when I use coconut oil and everytime I use neem (becaue it reeks). Also, maybe not the best brush cleaner, but I just use hand soap to clean my brush.

  14. Hi! I want to use Borage oil on my face but scared that it will make my face oily. The reason being, If I ever use a heavy cream, it makes my face greasy as my forehead gets very oily. I am not worried about the smell as i can use it at night.
    Please help.

    1. If you have oily skin then use the borage oil only before bed. When you get up in the morning wash your face with a cleanser that contains no oil, face toners are also good for absorbing oil. Do not wear the borage oil during the day. Your skin will still absorb the benefits of the oil while you sleep and if you are a bit oily while you are sleeping it doesn't matter, as long as you are not going out with an oily face during the day that is what counts. During the day wear a moisturizer that is non-greasy and light, also if you wear makeup make sure the finish is matte on the foundation and get a mattifying powder for touch-ups during the day. Keeping oil blotting sheets handy to absorb extra oil and shine is also a good idea.

Hope this helps :) Stop by any time.

    2. Thank very much Erica for the reply. I will use it the way you mentioned. My face is already smooth. I want to get the benefits of firming my facial skin, replenishing the lost collagen and reducing under eye wrinkles and dark circles from whatever I apply on my face. Please suggest If I keep using Borage oil or add something else to my anti aging regime.

  16. used it on my sensitive skin and it's great.. i bought the same oil brand like your picture and i just squeeze the oil out.. but the smell is overpowering.. what can i do?

  17. I use borage oil every day on my face as a moisturizer and use it as a carrier oil for grapefruit seed extract as a deodorant. It is a fantastic natural deodorant and has been wonderful for my face. I never could use moisturizer because the irritated my skin. Borage oil adds moisture but it is not heavy and pore clogging. I give it a big thumbs up!

  19. Cannot wait to look for Borage, this sounds like my saviour!! But I have a question.. You buy the pills just to cut them in half for the oil inside? You do no take them orally?!

    1. Hi, thanks for stopping by! I cut a tiny hole in the top of the capsule, squeeze the oil out and keep the pill in a little container like the cap of a spray bottle so I can reuse it until finished. I don't use the oil much anymore, I actually use a blend of natural oils from Pelle Beauty which I have reviewed as well as other brands of natural oils and elixirs. If you would like to see the review you can search (Pelle Beauty) in the search bar at the top of the page :)

      Good luck with the borage!
