On the weekend we celebrated my sister’s birthday by having
a delicious dinner and attending The National Ballet of
Canada’s rendition of Swan Lake.
I am captivated by live theater including plays, musicals, operas and
ballet. I have attended many musicals, and performances including: Cirque
Du Soleil, The Lion King, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Phantom of the Opera to name a few. There is something magical and exciting about watching art come to life and
expressed through music, dance and theatrics. To me it is more
enthralling than motion picture.
The ballet was the epitome of grace and elegance. The
costumes were beautiful and the dancers were strong, and poised. They appeared to glide and flutter weightlessly across
the stage. I also enjoyed the musical scores of the live
orchestra.

For those who don’t know what Swan Lake is about, it is
based on a story of love, politics, temptation, betrayal and the fall of a
kingdom told through interpretive dance. Although the tale is quite simple and the love story as underdeveloped as Romeo and Juliet's infatuation, it was a joy to watch. If you have never been to a ballet
before I highly recommend it.
