Too Faced Life’s a Festival Collection - Review & Swatches

I don’t know what it is with girls and unicorns but the obsession is real! Admittedly I did have a My Little Pony as a kid and I just started watching a new show about mermaids so I guess our love of cute things inspired this mythical new makeup. The Life’s a Festival Collection is a whimsical range of glitter, rainbows, fairies and fantasy – pretty much all your childhood dreams rolled into one. There are some unusual pigments in this line but the shadows, Lip Toppers and highlighters are quite magical.

Let’s start with my favorite – the Life’s a Festival Eye Shadow Palette ($42.00). The packaging reminds me of my childhood bedroom – girly and adorable.

Inside there is an ethereal variety of duo chromatic pigments including creamy mattes and fun pearlescent pops. You can mix and match these beauties to create interesting combinations and the formula is impressive – smooth, velvety and buildable with intense color payoff. The scent isn’t as delicious as some of my other Too Faced products but the deep berry hue called Funtasy is enough to convince me that I need this palette in my life. Mystic Rain is also another shocker because it looks like shimmery pink but applies as a multidimensional bluish green silver that perfectly captures the mermaid vibe.

This rainbow has a lot of goodness within – bright corals, radiant green, vibrant teal and a highlighter called Unicorn Tears - you can't go wrong.

The Festival Refresh Spray ($24.00) cools you down on warm days and prolongs the wear of makeup. The blue fluid contains opalescent pearls for sparkling illumination but remember to shake well as the pigment tends to settle at the bottom. The glitter particles randomly disperse over your face but they aren't very noticeable so you won't look like a disco ball. The spray also refines pores, controls oil and helps improve skin texture with a sweet scent.

The Rainbow Strobe Highlighter ($30.00) contains multi-colored strips of shimmer to help you spice-up your look.

There is a lot of glitter in this compact and the particles tend to scatter messily if you blend too much. Use fluid strokes for a better finish.

If you’re looking for something easier to apply, the Unicorn Tears Bronzer ($30.00) is an excellent choice. This is a great shade for medium to deep skin tones, especially if you crave a sunkissed glow. The silky powder enhances radiance with a natural sheen and the moonlight highlighter in the middle adds a starlight effect for more drama. Mix them together or wear each shade on its own.

Bottle of Unicorn Tears ($30.00) is a liquid highlighter with a twinkling effect. Shake well and apply to the high points of your face for a blast of sparkle. The watery formula can be messy so try to contain the blending to one area for better consistency and if you’re really brave, mix some into your foundation. Once dry, the flecks stay put relatively well but the process is a bit tedious.

The Unicorn Horn Highlighting Stick ($28.00) is more precise and the creamy texture glides on evenly for a luminous finish. I was a bit weirded-out when I saw the blue but on the skin it transforms into a holographic wash of pink-purple shimmer (very pretty). Unicorn Dreams is a stunning rose gold that looks great on all skin tones and the saturated sheen provides a glamorous finish that can go from natural to intense. I am not usually a fan of cream sticks but these are fabulous!

Now that we’ve talked about getting our glow on, let’s move onto the lips. The La Creme Mystical Lipsticks ($22.00 ea) are very unique! I was a bit confused when I saw some of the shades because no one looks good in white lipstick but the colors are not what they appear to be. Those shocking butter cream hues transform into shimmery gold and pink with a lovely sheer finish. Dab them in the center of your pout or on top of lipstick for a gorgeous two-tone highlight. The deep navy (Mermaid Tears) is actually a radiant purple with flashes of pink and blue glitter while Unicorn Tears is exactly what it looks like – bright powder puff blue. The rich formula is infused with Lotus Flower Extract for cushiony comfort and long-lasting hydration.

The Magic Crystal Lip Topper ($19.00) is a holographic gloss that changes color and glistens radiantly when light shifts. The supple texture is smooth and comfortable with no chunks or stickiness and the rainbow formula amps-up your pout with metallic brilliance – perfect for parties, festivals and concerts.

The Melted Latex Liquid Lipstick in Unicorn Tears ($21.00) must be popular because it is currently sold-out on the website. This juicy lacquer bursts with intense shine and the bluish- grey hue is infused with bright blue sparkle. This isn’t really an everyday shade but it might look good over a deep matte blue or navy lipstick.
